This is "Schwimm Kultur"

Our unique initiative is committed to ensuring that international students in Magdeburg can learn to swim and feel welcome and at home in Magdeburg. To this end, we leverage the positive effects of swimming and learning together in the water, which we reinforce through our own training concept and complementary events.Through this innovative combination, we create an offering that not only teaches a survival skill (swimming ability), but also promotes the arrival, welcome, and general integration of international students, as well as mental and social well-being. Last but not least, this also increases the academic and life satisfaction of our participants.

Our workshops and events:

  • enhance the positive effects of swimming on mental health and stress resilience
  • promote cultural and social integration
  • foster cultural exchange and interaction

Community-building:

  • Short lines of communication and networking among all participants via WhatsApp
  • Providing and sharing targeted information about swimming, life in Magdeburg, and university offerings
  • Raising the visibility of international students in public spaces through social media (Instagram)

 

Learn to swim and feel good

Our swimming course:

  • is conducted in English
  • is pedagogically supported
  • follows specifically developed teaching methods that transform an individual sport into a team sport

Swimming as a sport:

  • suitable coping strategy for stress management and self-regulation (Krauß, 2002)
  • can trigger meditative-relaxing states and thus a flow experience (see Brandstätter et al., 2013)
  • improves physical fitness
